「Wild Cherry」樂隊是主音歌手Rob Parissi與隊員於1970年組成的。
樂隊與Brown Bag Records唱片公司簽約，但由於理念不同，於1975年樂隊離開唱片公司並無發行過任何作品。
Rob Parissi後來找了另一班朋友組成了第二代的「Wild Cherry」，開始在各大搖滾Club及Disco 裡演出，因他們玩太多搖滾音樂，所以到來玩的人們常會對他們說：『Play that funky music』。
Rob Parissi 與團員討論著是否要在Rock'n Roll與Disco之間找出一個平衡點，鼓手當時回應說每次都聽到客人跟他說：『You gotta play that funky music, white boy!』Rob Parissi突然覺得這個點子真棒，順手拿起吧台點飲料的紙條便開始寫了下來。
幾個月後，他們寫了2首歌放在同一張黑膠唱片裡，A 面是【I Feel Sanctified】，而 b 面是【Funky Music】，並由Rob Parissi 把這張唱片拿到紐約跟幾家唱片公司談簽約的事情，但他們都缺乏興趣。當Rob Parissi 開始心灰時，有個人跑來邀請他在 Epic 這個廠牌裡發行這張EP。
於是在1976年，「Wild Cherry」首次發行同名專輯《Wild Cherry》並獲得Billboard (美國告示排行榜) 年度最佳流行音樂團體，此外還得到美國音樂獎年度最佳R&B單曲的葛萊美獎：最佳新聲團體與最佳R&B表演團體，並在加拿大以及其他的國家拿到黃金銷售唱片的成績。
